Winter Street Parking & Snow Removal

Dear Residents,

As the winter season is upon us, the Board of Trustees asks for your full cooperation to ensure our Public Works Department (DPW) can safely and effectively clear snow from Village streets and sidewalks. Compliance with the following regulations and procedures is essential for public safety and efficient snow removal operations.

Snow Emergency & Street Parking Restrictions

Local law requires that all vehicles be removed from Village streets under any of the following conditions:

  • When two (2) inches or more of snow has fallen, or
  • When two (2) inches or more of snow is forecasted by the National Weather Service, or
  • When the Mayor or Board of Trustees declares a snow emergency.

Parking on Village streets is prohibited during these conditions. Please ensure all vehicles are parked in compliance with local regulations. Failure to do so may result in fines of up to $500, pursuant to Section 188-10 of the Village Code.

Vehicles left curbside prevent full-width plowing, resulting in narrow, icy roadways and limited access for police, fire, emergency, and other essential services.

Residents are urged to move vehicles as soon as a qualifying snowfall is forecasted or begins, and to keep streets clear throughout plowing operations.

Designated Temporary Snow Parking

To accommodate residents during snow emergencies, temporary off-street parking is available in all parking areas inclusive of “VAB PERMIT ONLY” spots located on Ocean Boulevard.

  • Duration: Vehicles may remain parked in these designated Ocean Boulevard locations for up to 24 hours after plowing is completed.
  • Return to Street: Please wait 24 hours after plowing before returning vehicles to on-street parking.

Snow Removal & Safety Reminders

  • Plowing operations may continue for many hours and into the night. Please do not shovel driveways or streets until plowing is complete, as snow may be redeposited.
  • Do not place shoveled snow into the street. Snow left in roadways will be pushed back into driveways or refreeze, creating hazardous conditions.
  • After a storm, DPW crews continue working to clear storm drains and widen roadways to assist with snowmelt and drainage.
  • Residents are encouraged to assist by clearing snow from fire hydrants and storm drains located near their property.
  • If travel is not necessary during a snow emergency, please stay off the roads. Stuck or abandoned vehicles significantly delay snow removal and increase safety risks.

Your cooperation is critical in helping keep our Village streets passable, safe, and accessible for emergency response during winter weather events.

Thank you for your continued cooperation.
